A Huge Crane Collapses in New York City Lower Manhattan


One person has died and at least three other people were injured, two of them seriously. A giant crane toppled over and crashed onto Worth Street between Church Street and West Broadway in Tribeca shortly before 8:30 a.m. today.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said workers were moving a large crane into a secure position because of the wind when it fell.

The crane was stationed outside a building at 60 Hudson, which takes up an entire block between West Broadway and Hudson, before it fell. The NYPD has closed off Worth Street where the crane fell, and there are reports of live electrical wires on the ground. Other streets have been closed as well.
